Spellburn Interview
Happy Holidays, Thick Skullers! I’m pleased to announce that I’ve been interviewed by the fine Judges at Spellburn! I had a fun time chatting about the origins of Thick Skull Adventures, my experience with the game, and some behind the scenes of where I get ideas and what not. My thanks to Jim, Jen, Jeffrey and Jobe! Take a listen and let me know what you think.

Hello Thick Skullers, Well as you know, last week was a bit of a doozy for me, losing my friend to cancer and then celebrating his life at wakes, funerals, viewings, etc. I’m slowly trying to get my game head back in order. It will take some time. Here’s a couple of game-related updates: Haunting of Larvik Island goes Copper I was pleased to see that The Haunting of Larvik Island reached “Best-Selling Copper” status on RPGNow.com. It took about a year to get there, but it made it. I want to send a big heartfelt thank...

Sad news, Thick Skullers. It is with a heavy heart that I’m going to tell you guys about the passing of one of my very close friends, Mr. Mike Frezzo. I met Mike about 15 years ago when he and several others (including Karen Siegel) joined an ice hockey team I played on. During that time, Frezzo and I have probably played hundreds of games together, enjoyed 3 times as many beers, and had an incalculable amount of laughs. (And, yes, I always called him just “Frezzo” and he referred to me just as “Mr. Snake”). Frezzo had a great sense of humor...

Happy News, Thick Skullers! Our happy family has levelled up! Our fabulous graphic design, Catherine “Cat” Harkins DiNardo and her charismatic husband Devin “Devo” DiNardo (who double’s as Thick Skull Adventure’s Wordpress guru) welcomed their son Luca to the world last night. We will be buying Baby Luca his own set of 20-sided dice just as soon as he’s old enough to realize he should not try to eat them. Sending all our love to Cat, Devo and baby Luca.

Fun news, Thick Skullers! Our favorite podcast Spellburn has generously donated some airtime to provide a review of Stronghold of the Wood Giant Shaman! I have to admit I’m walking around today with a bit of a fan-boy crush on our 4 judges as I hear them talk about our little Shaman. I think my favorite quote came from +Jeffrey Tadlock (who, as you remember, provided the maps for both Shaman and Haunting of Larvik Island) when he says, “…this module creeped me out… I’m not easily creeped, but there were a few...
read moreWord Templates for DCC Writing
David Baity of the G+ DCC Forums was looking for Word templates for DCC writing so I thought I’d post some things for you guys that I use. If it helps one person, it might help another: Starter Word Template for DCC Adventures – This basically has the outline of all the general sections I include along with a monster stat block. Most interesting thing you’ll probably find in is the Styles I use when creating adventures. DCC Wizard Spell Template – Exactly what it sounds like. It uses Duvall and Book Antigua fonts to...

Hello Thick Skullers! More fun news to share! Once again DCC RPG Community favorite +Brandon Goeringer (aka @SavageGM on Twitter) has created another one of his video reviews, this time for The Haunting of Larvik Island. His review does a good job describing what judges can expect from the adventure and many 0f the encounters. The video has a few spoilers in it, so if you’re a player who wants to participate in the adventure, you may want to avoid watching it. Click here to watch the video. If you like this video, you may also want to...
read moreJen Brinkman talks about her Angry Red Pen
Not only does Jen Brinkman make DCC judging look good—a fact that the recent spike in my website traffic can attest to—she’s also a helluva an editor. Between her and Purple Sorcerer’s Jon Marr, Stronghold of the Wood Giant Shaman was published with approximately 800 less spelling, grammatical, and continuity errors than it otherwise would have. On the one hand this makes me feel happy that I’ve released a quality product, and on the other hand it makes me feel like a moron, as English is my “mother tongue” after all. Anyway, it’s great...
