Thick Skull Adventures turns 5 years old!

Happy Birthday, Thick Skull Adventures! The date totally passed me by, but June 30 was the birthday to this creative outlet of mine, Thick Skull Adventures. On June 30, 2011 is when I first released  The Haunting of Larvik Island for Dungeons and Dragons fourth edition. It would be another year or so before Dungeon Crawl Classics would be released and Attack of the Frawgs would hatch for that fabulous game system. I want to thank everyone for making these adventures so fun to work on, and being such a fabulous and supportive community. In the...

I won’t be at GenCon, but my writing will be

Hello Thick Skullers! So sadly another year goes by where I will not be able to attend one of the Big 3 RPG Cons (neither GaryCon, North Texas RPG, nor GenCon), but I’m pleased to see that there are some fabulous judges running some stuff I’ve published: They Served Brandolyn Red – DCC – Judge Jim Dovey, Thursday 9AM They Served Brandolyn Red – DCC – Judge Michael Crane, Friday 2PM Children of the Fallen Sun – MCC – Mutant Judge Michael Bolam, Friday 2pm But that’s just my stuff. As you likely know (especailly if you’re...

MCC RPG Kickstarter and The Children of the Fallen Sun

Hello Thickskullers! As you’re all probably aware, the long awaited Mutant Crawl Classics RPG Kickstarter campaign started last week and was fully funded within the first hour. It’s a testament to how much (well deserved) excitement has been built up for this game. Jim Wampler has done an amazing job creating a DCC RPG game/campaign. As you know, I’ve been fortunate enough to read the rules in beta, and I’ve written an adventure for this setting: Children of the Fallen Sun. Most notably, it will be run by Michael Bolam...

The Shambling Un-Dead released!

Hello Thick Skullers! I’m pleased to say I once again had the opportunity to work with Jim Wampler and the rest of the DCC Cabal to contribute to Goodman Game’s third road crew tournament adventure, The Shambling Un-Dead. In this 0-level adventure, the PCs find themselves as common villagers trapped in midst of an un-dead apocalypse! As they scurry from location to location, they encounter different varieties of un-dead creatures and other challenges. The crew behind it: Jim Wampler, Concept, Design, Co-Author Bob Brinkman,...

Wood Giant Stats

Hello Thick Skullers! A thread appeared on Google Plus asking about how to convert giants. In order to be a Good Community Citizen (and taking a cue from the generosity of community favorites like Daniel Bishop and Paul Wolfe), I thought I’d make available the one-page monster description for wood giants as taken from Stronghold of the Wood Giant Shaman. Here’s the short version: Wood Giant: Init -2; Atk club +10 melee (2d8+8) or hurled stone +6 missile fire (1d8+6, range 100’); AC 16; HD 6d10; MV 30’; Act 1d22; SP natural spell...

12 Days of OSR Christmas 2016

Happy Christmas, Thick Skullers! Every year, Erik Tenkar does a wonderful community service of organizing the 12 Days of OSR Christmas, and this year is no exception. In the past I have donated PDFs of my products, but this year I’m upping the game and donating a set of print and PDFs to some lucky winner (or winners… not sure how Mr. Tenkar will be giving the loot away.) Sadly, I’ll only be mailing the print copies to US winners. I will be donating a print + PDF set of: Attack of the Frawgs (the updated 2015 digest edition)...

Black Friday Sale 2015

Life in the DCC funnel is cheap, and on Black Friday, it’s 40% cheaper. All titles have been reduced from $4.99 to $2.99 this weekend! So if you’ve just been hanging out in the tavern drinking mead, it’s time to grab your 10-foot pole and start exploring!...

Attack of the Frawgs: 2015 Edition

Hello Frawgs Fans, Wanted to let you know that I’ve updated Attack of the Frawgs to the “2015 Edition”. It includes the following changes: Digest sized format. This is not full-sized scrunched down into digest sized, but a complete re-layout of the content to optimize for digest sized printing and reading. Three new pieces of art from Reba Pyron. Now you can see imagery of the gicastor attack, a crab friend, and the frawg spawner in all their splendor. Rewrite of encounter area 1-12. That encounter has been replaced with a new totem erected...

They Served Brandolyn Red

Now available from Goodman Games in both print and PDF, my latest adventure They Served Brandolyn Red. The village of Portnelle is once again bright and festive. After years of feuding, the town’s most prominent and influential families will finally be making peace as the youngest generations are joined in marriage. However, when an evil born of dark secrets refuses to stay buried, blood will flow like wine at the reception. This wedding is one your fellow villagers will talk about for generations! I had a lot of fun writing this...
